Christofferson, Steven J. SPC "Steve" of Cudahy. Was tragically taken from us in Bayji (Beiji), Iraq by an I.E.D. on Monday, April 21, 2008, at the age of 20 years. Beloved son of Michell Christofferson. Loving brother of Dakota and Dillon Christofferson. Dear grandson of Joe (the late Ruth Tavidian) Gervasio and the late Monog Tavidian. Fond nephew of Monique (Dennis) Nimphius. Cousin of Kylie, Austin, Tanner and Jessica. Survived by his beloved Bear, Tucker and Jake. Also survived by his Brothers In Arms in Iraq (Delta Co., 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, Mad Dog 5th Platoon) other relatives and many friends.

Steven was a 2006 graduate of Cudahy High School, where he played football, wrestled and ran track. After graduating he joined the Army, getting stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky before deploying to Iraq in September 2007.  

Funeral Friday, May 2, at 1:00 PM, at the Cudahy High School Field House, 4950 S. Lake Dr. Cudahy, WI. Pastor Harlan A. Nefstead Officiant. Interment Forest Hill Memorial Park. Visitation Thursday, May 1, at the Cudahy High School Field House 4:00-8:00 PM and Friday, May 2, at the Field House 11:00 AM until the time of service. From The Governor's Office:

Flags at Wisconsin National Guard armories, air bases and other facilities across the state will fly at half-staff Friday, May 2, in honor of U.S. Army Sgt. Steven Christofferson, a Cudahy resident who lost his life in Bayji, Iraq. The Guard will render these honors in accordance with an executive order issued by Gov. Jim Doyle.

Executive Order 249 reads:

WHEREAS, on April 21, 2008, Sergeant Steven Christofferson, a member of 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, United States Army, died while serving his country in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Steven Christofferson provided faithful and honorable service to the people of the State of Wisconsin and the people of the United States; and

WHEREAS, the people of Wisconsin mourn the death of Sergeant Steven Christofferson; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Steven Christofferson will be laid to rest on Friday, May 2, 2008;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JIM DOYLE, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, by the authority vested in me by Federal and State law, do hereby order that the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Wisconsin shall be flown at half-staff at all buildings, grounds and military installations of the State of Wisconsin equipped with such flags beginning at sunrise on May 2, 2008, and ending at sunset on that date.
