  • Cracks force closing of ramp in new Marquette Interchange

    A Marquette Interchange freeway ramp used by 15,000 motorists per day was shut down Thursday afternoon and will remain closed indefinitely because cracks have formed in a vertical support pier.
  • Most city offices to be closed on Friday

    Most Milwaukee city offices will be closed for a furlough day Friday and Labor Day on Monday. One notable exception is Municipal Court, which will be open Friday, then closed for the holiday Monday and an unpaid day off Tuesday.

    A 50-year-old man who tried to commit suicide by jumping from the Hoan Bridge about 7:30 Thursday morning was pulled from the Milwaukee River by firefighters and the Coast Guard and was taken to a hospital for treatment, officials said.
