| About Spent |
The Story Behind Spent The foundation of Spent was being poured long before the band would ever exist. Paul had already met with success as the lead guitarist in a band called boyd RockeT. Jason, a good friend of Pauls, had worked his way through the scene playing bass in a band called Space Monkey Mafia, guitar in Burn Factory, and helped out in relief at bass and guitar in boyd RockeT.
It was a natural fit as the members of boyd RockeT started going their separate ways, Paul and Jason began a new project together. Paul went home and diligently created new riffs and recycled some old rejected riffs and introduced them to Jason, who also had been toying with a couple of new bass lines. So they went to a friends studio and hastily put it all together sans a drum line and vocals.
It would work if they could only find the right people to fill the other voids in the band. As luck turned out, they didnt have to wait long to find their singer.
Toby, the lead vocalist and bassist of a band called Iklektik was performing at a club that Jason and Paul just happened to attend one night. The music he wrote for Iklektik and the music that Paul and Jason had written were remarkably similar. The fit seemed perfect...except...he played bass. That didnt stop Jason and Paul in their pursuit of this talented singer and songwriter. It turned out he played bass only out of necessity, and would much rather play guitar or nothing at all.
The pieces slowly started to fit together a little more nicely. Now, armed with a new lead singer, lyrics, and the basis of a good amount of music, the search was on for the final piece. Paul, Jason and Toby all knew that they had something special and they needed that drummer that would make everything come to fruition. The tryouts started. The tryouts continued. The tryouts tried everyones patience. The tryouts almost killed a blossoming band. After settling on a drummer, Spent moved on to record their first album which was released in 2003, Every Last Dime.
Necessity later demanded that Spent renew its search for a compatible drummer. And so began the next round of tryouts. After much ado, the band agreed that Joe would be best suited to be the drummer of the future of Spent. Now armed with skill and talent, Spent is poised to continue to build a name and a following, and hope to release their next album by the end of 2005. So...who exactly are these guys? PAUL JASON TOBY JOE
