We almost had a world class hockey complex built in Cudahy, but the financing fell through. Now it sits as an eyesore next to a shiney new Walgreens.  There has been talk of building a Wal-Mart in Cudahy, but on a different site (between Pennsylvania & Layton Ave.) Not too many years ago, there was a home-brewing supply store on Packard Ave.   I believe there should be a brewery in Cudahy.  If I had the capital, and the blessing of the city of Cudahy, I might just be tempted to build a brewery in the place that was once reserved for the Iceport.  There are still many bars in Cudahy.  It seems like the demand exists for a quality microbrewery.

I say Hockey Complex. That would bring so much business to the city.

That huge Powerade Iceport was supposed to go in Cudahy. I've read some of the stuff about it, and I still don't understand how a deal that big could've died like that.  It was a $35 million project, one of the largest of its kind in North America. It's just a big shell sitting there now?

A hockey arena would have been great. But since that doesn't sound like it's happening, let's not forget Rollaero.  That place rocked. Wink  It's still there, right?

A microbrewery would be a great match for the town. Heck, I think most people would agree anything with the word 'brew' or 'beer' in it would be a good match for Cudahy. Maybe the hockey shell could be converted into a Powerbeer Icebrew.

What Cudahy needs is a multi recreational facility.  Something that will bring more youth to town.  A skatepark / BMX / rollerblade park.  Some kind of indoor/outdoor facility for kids to attend.  Perhaps something with a soccer field attached to it.  Somewhere for kids to skate, hang out, see bands, and generally have a place to go that doesn't make them feel like Cudahy is a big drunk tank waiting to happen.  Granted, I don't skate anymore, but when I did the cops used to harass us, we were called punks, and generally lost a lot of CGR (cool guy rating) points.  Me, Jerry Schorbachn, Jason Serocki, Greg Siech, and a few others that were in our "clique" would have to trek out to 40th and Loomis to go to the Turf, and we had a blast!   It kept us active, we made new friends, and I feel it enriched our lives as kids back then.  Cudahy needs something for the kids and teens to attend and interact with each other.  If there was a rec. facility like that, maybe kids would look to a sports carear rather than hunting down look alikes to get a fake ID.  I left Cudahy when I was like 23 to go on tour with bands, I moved to NYC for a while and recently moved back.  When I drove through Cudahy last, it was like a barron wasteland...What happened?

I've got to agree with Pivonka on this one.  There really isn't a lot in this city for the older kids/teens/young adults.  A place where they can go to have fun where they aren't going to get into trouble.  I ended up working around teens in the city a lot in my two previous jobs (sub teacher and then in the public library) and it was pretty sad when I'd overhear them talking about the excitement that evening being hanging out behind the K-mart or just walking Packard Avenue.  Everyone wants them to stay out of trouble, to do something productive, or not to sit home and just play video games, but unless there's an alternative...

Microbrewery.  Hands down.

RIIIGHT.... Cudahy needs MORE BOOZE.  I think we have the most bars per capita in the whole U.S.  Also the smell of yeast might improve the reputation of Cudahy being the nose sore of the southside.  What is it "From South Milwaukee to Whitefish Bay...Nothing stinks like Cudahy"

Based on what I saw on my visit in 2006, Cudahy must attract businesses to create a viable tax base. Back in the day, Cudahy had Ladish, P.C., Cudahy Tanning, and some other mid size manufacturing entities. Except for P.C., most if not all of the businesses are gone. Service industry jobs won't make it alone - Another Wal Mart is not the answer.

The city has to find a way to attract professional / technical entities, and the new Mayor hopefully will be able to seed this environment at the old Iceport site.
