Talk it Up / General Discussion / Cudahy news: Shooting his age? Wisconsin golfer, 92, had 18 strokes to spare
|
on: June 07, 2007, 08:22 PM
|
Low and behold! 92-year-old cards 74.From JSOnline.com June 5, 2007
It was just one of dozens of honor scores printed in the Journal Sentinel last week: Grant Park, Dick Woerfel, 74. But this was one extraordinary round of golf. Woerfel, you see, is 92 years old. At that age, it's a bonus just to be ambulatory, much less be able to swing a golf club. Amazingly, Woerfel plays 18 holes three days a week - his group has a regular 7 a.m. tee time at Grant - and still competes occasionally in senior tournaments. The longtime Cudahy resident got his start in golf by working as a caddie at the Peninsula State Park Golf Course . . . in the 1920s. He retired from his job as an industrial arts teacher at Cudahy High School . . . in 1979. He has been married to Leona, his high school sweetheart . . . for 68 years. Read the full story.

Reunions & Other Events / Upcoming Reunions / Class of 1971 40th Reunion Announcement
|
on: May 15, 2007, 01:38 PM
|
May 1, 2007 “We will never be outdone, we’re the class of ’71!”
Remember that phrase?? Of course you do, it was our class motto!!
What could we do to make the 40th reunion for the Cudahy Class of 1971 an event that will never be out done? How about planning a destination event??
Imagine enjoying your choice of fun-filled activities such as scenic tours, water parks, spa treatments, boating, fine dining, exceptional entertainment, shopping, golfing, seeing your Class of 1971 classmates, biking, hiking and maybe even doing a little gambling!! All that and more awaits us at the Wisconsin Dells. We all know time flies and 2011 will be here sooner than we think, so let’s imagine it’s already time for our 40th class reunion. Isn’t it exciting to think that this time we will be celebrating our ongoing reunion tradition at the Dells? The Dells, as you know, provides the perfect venue for those who enjoy quality time with their kids and grandkids, or for couples dreaming of a romantic get-a-way.
What’s that you say? No kids, no grandkids, and no one to steal your covers?? No problem, be adventurous and come alone… bring your fun-loving spirit and get in the game! There will be a bunch of former classmates to hang out with and you’re sure to have a great time.
Or, if you prefer… gather a group of your friends, neighbors and/or co-workers and plan an extreme outdoor adventure or an indulgent pampering session. Your group is welcome to attend our class party, too. But if you prefer, you can ditch them for the night… it’s your call.
Our 40th reunion isn’t only about gathering the Class of ’71, it’s about enjoying a grand celebration of life! Think how great it will be to see old friends, make new ones, show off your kids and grandkids, and have the best time imaginable… all in the name of Cudahy High!
Since the class of ’71 will never be out done, let’s keep in mind that the 40th anniversary of anything is a biggie but especially when it’s a reunion… so this time, let’s plan to go big or go home!!!!! Knowing the boundless spirit all of us love to exhibit when it comes to our school and our class, I know you’ll want to join me in going REALLY BIG for our 40th reunion!
So whether you’ll be attending our event with your entire entourage, a special someone, or simply flying solo, you’ll be sure to find plenty to see and do at the Dells. I guarantee there will be many familiar faces in the crowd and you’ll be sure to come away with tons of great memories, too!
Several of our classmates have already expressed an interest in this type of event and I’m sure there are many more who will want to get on board with this plan. Therefore, if a reunion at the Dells sparks your interest, please send me an email before July 1st so I can start planning accordingly. I know it’s only 2007 but destination events require extra time to plan, therefore I’d like to get an idea of attendance as soon as possible.
Please understand that you are under absolutely no obligation at this time. I’m only trying to determine your interest level in a destination reunion. And there’s certainly no need to try guessing how many will be in your party, just a simple response of “yes, I’m interested” will do fine for now.
If you have any questions, or if you simply want to let me know you would enjoy celebrating our next class reunion at the Wisconsin Dells, you can reach me at: pots71@earthlink.net
More details on our 40th reunion celebration will be forthcoming, and of course, any and all suggestions are genuinely welcome.
Thanks for taking the time to consider attending our next class reunion. I hope all of you are happy, healthy and enjoying life to the fullest. Looking forward to hearing from you soon, and hoping to see you at the Dells in 2011!
Please register at www.alumz.com and www.cudahyalumni.com.
Yours truly,

Hey Stacee, That's a good question. Presently people have been e-mailing me with that information - melissa@yaderhey.com. However, I think it would be good to have a way to do it right through the site. I'm going to a meeting right now; when I get back this afternoon I'll add a way to do that. Melissa
